Roit Control

California is sliding off into the abyss. When their welfare programs sink they will not swim. When the monthly checks don't appear in the money(mail)box or the direct deposit accounts you can look for a California crime wave. My brother told me forty years ago that the welfare system was for the biggest part...Riot Control.

Those that need assistance the most...the elderly, the infirm and truly disabled will suffer the most and probably be victims of the un(dead)rest that follows the budgetary chaos to follow. American citizens can not support the world...which the government has been doing since post WW2.

When the IOUs hit the FAN...LOOK OUT.

On an other day I will try to do more, better posting and maybe start putting up a few recipes, but this it for the day as it is still hard to write.

Bird brains

Have been putting bird seed out for the birds. Gen. I let the aviators fend for themselves, but right now they can not scratch through the ice and snow so it is time to assist our fine feathered friends. They will eat almost anything and are happy to have bird seed, old bread, old grease or fat or even an old bone with scraps on it.

I have been watching them, too. They make me think of people and how we and they share the basic instincts for survival. And it comes down to this; The biggest and the most aggressive will bully out the smallest of the birds for whatever it takes to survive. And people are that way as well.

A big guy will not go hungry or cold if he knows a little guy has what he needs, esp. if he has family or friends. Most charitable deeds and beneficent thoughts will be chucked out the window if life gets hard or things go bad. There are exception to the rule, but don't count on it.

Unlike the birds of the air and the lowly grasshopper, some of us are preparing for coming hardships. We can stock up, save, and learn to survive in a "Mad Max" scenario. Pray that it never comes to that.

Here is my advice; PREPARE. Keep a low profile.Don't advertise. Don't brag. Don't even tell your best friends because they should be doing their own preparations. Or you can wait and try to bully some little bird out of his/her daily rations. But if you try that you may wind up with a bad taste in your mouth. Even little bird can and will fight back under adverse conditions.

Tested

The big ice storm is certainly testing Kentuckians. If you are prepared you probably will pass your pre-test or discover where you fail or are weak. I know where I am weak and need to up grade. I need more batteries and kerosene, or at least have it where I can get to it.

I am lucky. My lights blinked a few times, but stayed on. My floor furnace continued to heat the house and I remained comfortable. However, my neighbor has a very big tree on his house. Across the street there are very large limbs down and there may be more to come down.

I have plenty of food, candles and a kerosene heater in the back room if I need it. I have lots of candles and warm cloths if the heat were to go. What I don't have is a strong right arm, but even that is slowly improving 'though painful.

I now realize it is enough for a short term emergency and need to ramp it up, esp. in water storage. My cell phone was not working and most of the TV stations were off the air..probably due to icing over on the satellite dishes. Some things to mull over and do or re-do after this little test and there is more bad weather on the horizon.

I read the Survivialady's blog and often think she and family are eating up her food faster than she can haul it in. That's exactly what I am doing now until I can drive again and replenish my stock. I can now type a bit better, too!

coffee filters

this morning as i made my coffee and tossing out the filter i got to musing that most people don't know that the filters are actually reusable. or they may know, but care less. to reuse them you do need to take the time to dump the grounds and rinse out the filter and find a place to dry the paper for the next
use. it is good to take a few seconds to reshape the filter.

if you don't use the filter for the next pot of coffee remember you can filter/strain dirt from gasoline, kerosene and dirty water before you boil water for consumption. i am sure people can come up with other uses for coffee filters.

don't forget the old grounds can be relegated to the garden or potted plants. in desperation..and desperation days may be upon us..you can use those old ground over for a pot weak coffee.i think an old fashioned percolator would be really good to have on hand. i have one.

i have actually done what i have written. life may get a lot harder. save now wherever you can.

Working for Chicken Feed

Something is missing in my blogs, one whole blog I think. Oh Well.

True to form the chickens came home to roost. I had to go out when it was dark and let them in. They were happy to get home and in with the flock. This eve. there is only one out. When he gets in I think I will close the door so I can get in without fighting of the hungry horde in the morning. One neighbor said they crow and that will help keep them a little less stringent in the AM..dampen their singing cords so they will not be so loud. I may be able to clean the run and fill the water before they run amuck.

I went to the farm store and got a new bag of scratch and another bag of layer crumbles. The bags weigh about 40 lbs. apiece and are hard for me to handle with one bad arm. I went and got my garden cart and slid one bag at at time into the cart. Well, the big, red roaster decided to hitch a ride and climbed on to the rim of the cart and rode about half way through the yard before he fell off. He didn't try to hitchhike the second time around.

I went to the library and used their computer and printer to print off some articles from Urban Chicken.com and from City Chicken.com. My printer isn't working so I used theirs.

I went into the garden and pulled a couple more radishes. One is probably about six inches long. I also planted those onions that are dividing into sets. I will wait to see how they grow. I got a few flower seeds from the farm store, too

I have been busy and that is why there are some dirty dishes in the sink, mostly plastic ware that I dug out to re-wash. I called the Salvation Army to see if they still picked up stuff, but now they only want furniture. I guess I will have to take it to them a small amt. at a time.

I have a lot of cloths to wash because running in and out of the chicken condo gets me dirty, sweaty and smelly. The chickens like me any way.

Have not heard anything on Big Brother today so he must be doing OK. I will call tomorrow.

Thus another day slips away and I yawn.

just thinking

i've been thinking. i think m. creekmore as the right idea. if i were younger, healther, and smarter i would head south if things were t go realy bad or wrose than they are now. j. rawles can keep his wild country where the living is hard, cold and isolated. unless you have the money and the ability to survive in bitter cold or heat and wind i would think twice about relocating into what woul be be prety hostile enviroment for the uniniated.

i would head south..if i could. the southern mountains of appilachia or the marginal lands surronding the great americn swamps would be my refuge of choice.
the swamp lands are teeming with wild life and plants that are sustainable for a bugouter. people have been survivig in these swamplands and fring areas for a long, long time.

wherever you were to go there would be hardships in order to survive, but i would rather do it in an area that is generaly warmer. yup, creekmoroe has a goog plan...go south, i would..if i could.

sleepless in ky.

sometimes i don.t sleep well esp. when the moon changes or is about to no. i don't howl at the moon, grow fags or fur. just don't sleep well when we have a full moon. years ago my astronomy teacher said that when the moon is full you can ect major earthquakes somewhere in the world.
today i have been trying to get steri-strips off my arm 'though i'm not supposed to. they annoy me and catch on my cloths. i gave up..they are stuck yo me.
today the sun is shinning and lifts up my spirits. i did get slightly depressed on Christmas day. iwas in the nursing home where i worked for 32 yrs. and someone was taking taking care of me.
i am trying to vacuum with 1 hand. my right hands wants to help and automatically tries and grasps things. only have 40-80 movement for now. here it comes, errors and all.

people need people

i t has been awhile since i have posted anything, but i wii try-typing with 1 finger.

i found out the hard way how much we are interdependent we are onone another after a bad injury.

it dosn't matter how tough you think you are, independent minded or knowledgable and prepared for survival prepared you are, a devestating injury, health issue or isolation will make you humble and think it over quite seriously. people-society need each other.

i have lots of food and preps. i can not open a can even with an electric can opener. i can not drive, go the grocery store, get to the dr. or p.i. without someone to volunter to aid me. cook with difficulty wash dishes-not well-and eat with my face practicaly in the plate.

yes, people need each other. i read theb logs of some who are anti gov., anti society. anti this or that or isolationsts, but think twice for what what you think would be an ideal world..society.

i write this with difficuly, but with convection. i will not spell check or look for errors. life is tough enough. may your world never be rocked, stay healthy and injury free, but don't count on it. nuture your friends and watch enimies-hopfully you have only friends.
