Pain in the neck..the jaw..the tooth and everything else

I won't write much tonight and here is why.  I didn't get to the dentiset today.  I go tomorrow.  In the meantime I am having a lot of pain and swelling on the left side of my head and face, even down into the carotid artery.  I found a bottle of amoxicillin in the med. cabnet and am loading up on that.  I will take two before I go to bed and a pain pill to help me sleep.   I hope we don't get  ice overnight because I really need to go to the dentist.

I went out long enough to take books back to the library.  I had to get them back.  While I was there I picked up a couple more easy reading books.

That's all for tonight because...because...because.  END.

Look at the prices on these old gravity gas pumps!
We will never see such low prices again!

The  price of gasoline is already up even 'though Wall St. is closed and the speculators can't speculate.  From what I can understand of the news the riots in Egypt would effect Europe more than us-we, of the Western hemisphere.  Never let a good riot-havoc-go to  waste.  They(bankers, speculators, and Wall Street Tycoons) will rush to cash in where we peons fear to tread.  The Robber Barons will be at work and play, and thus, history repeats itself. As written "The poor will always be with us," and to clarify the words of Christ in a more modern vernacular, we will always have the  "good, the bad and the very self-serving UGS(uglies).  So, what can we do about it?  Very little other than stock-up, store up your treasures in Heaven and try to survive.

I did drive out a little and checked the price of gas:  some prices were up 10 cents per gallon from yesterday evening.  It is hard to say what it will be tomorrow or on Monday when Wall Street and the banks open.  "Hope for the best and prepare for the worst."  I suppose I sound like a paranoid scare monger, but it worries me.

The two men that said they wanted to buy my old Rambler never showed up today.  That doesn't surprise me.  Everyone wants the car, but no one wants to pay for it.  The car will soon be 52 years old and is a rare model.  Maybe I will put it up on E Bay.

I walked in the garden and got mud on my shoes.  The moles are tearing up the garden spot; they are really bad and I need to get rid of them.  I did pull an over-wintering green onion that I missed last fall and spotted several more.  Onion breath!!

Storing up/Stocking up

ADDING TO THE LARDER.

I went shopping a little bit this afternoon  I am slowly replenishing my "pantry" and hope to do so next week, as well.  I got a few items that were on sale and a few items that I really didn't need, but got them anyway.
  1. 2 cans of tomato juice for 98 cents each.
  2. 4 jars of spaghetti sauce for 98 cents each.
  3. 2 cans of creamed corn for 50 cents or 2/$1.00.
  4. 2 loaves of bread for 85 cents each.
  5. 2 large jugs of  washing machine detergent-2/$5.00
I did have to pay full price for 1/2 gal. of milk and $2.89 for a small jar of honey.  The one thing I didn't really need was the plate lunch form the Deli. for $5.49, but it looked good and smelled even better.  They are not stingy with their plate lunches, so I can get two meals out it which equals out at about $2.75 per meal...and I didn't have to cook it, use energy or wash the dishes later.
I would like to go back and get more stuff, but I won't have the money to spend before next week.  Next week may bring about more sales, too.  I am really watching the sales as the price of groceries go up, up, and sailing away.

I am about to change this blog again.  I don't know what direction it will take, but blogs need "freshening" now and again.

GRUNTS

The snow is gone-for now.  I went to the Dollar Tree to get a few things.  Came home with more than I intended to get, but that is OK.  One more payment to the dentist and then I am out of debt..or am I.  Getting toothaches on the other side!

Not much going on.  Nothing to write about. The phone is ringing.  Debt collectors trying to find the woman who had  this number before.  Can't win!

How many disciples did Jesus have?  Just 12? More?

SNOW-HO

We had a little more snow than predicted; just over two inches.  Owensboro, about 30 miles south of here, had over five inches.  We may have some flurries now and then.

Because I had to go to the drug store, like it or not, I did use my cane.  I do not use or like to use the cane often, but I can not afford another bad fall.  The snow was melting and then freezing.  You know: "Pride goeth before a fall," and I don't want another messed up arm and I don't want to fall-eth.  So, I made use of the cane.

I miss summer salads.  Since I was already out I stopped by Windy's and picked up a small salad at the window. I think I may start mixed salad seeds in a container sometime next week.  Salad greens don't take long to grow and I am ready for something green.

Last week Tomato and Chicken Noddle soup were on sale for $.50 cents a can .  This week they are up to $1.00 a can.  Gas has come down to $2.98 if you pump it yourself.

NOT MUCH

The picture above reminds me of a very old book that was in a house we lived in when I small.
I wasn't supposed to look at it as a child. It had some very reveling prints of the naked and suffering sinners in hell. I wish I had that very old book as it was a work of art in itself.
*

A nice day today...or was to me.  I needed to get out of the house and run the car a little so that the battery doesn't go down.  Maybe the sun wasn't out there with me, but at least the temperatures were up in the high 30's.

Someone came to the door today asking if I would sell my old Rambler.  I guess I will, if they come back on Saturday, as they said they would.  I would be selling at a loss, but that is the way of cars.  I can't restore it now, as I don't have the strength of arm.  Selling it at a loss is better than having it rust away.  Something of something is better than nothing.

My hair is slowly growing out and I was able to trim it a little bit...even it up from where the helicopter clippers gobbled out chunks of hair.  I  think I may be able to appear in public again in a week or two.  Yes, it was that bad.  It is still a little raggedy, but improved.  No beautician could have done much with such a bad haircut: only time is the healing cure.  LOL's!

I hope to get to the grocery store tomorrow now that I am more presentable to the general public.  I need to get some milk and a few odds & ends.  I am making a list and checking it twice.  I may look for seeds, too.

We are to get a little snow overnight, but not enough to worry about.  Maybe an inch.  And guess what!  The phone has been silent all day!  That's what I like!

FROM THE KITCHEN WINDOW

You can't see much from these pictures that I aimed out the kitchen window.  You sure can't see the mess and the doggie dodo that doggie has to live in.  It's there.  I made the pictures as large as I could, but you can't see the details.  The kitchen window is really as close as I want to get.
.
I had to change my phone number.  Apparently you can't block cell phones and I know that WHO has two.  After having the same number for 40 years I have had to change it and now have to call everyone and give them my new number.

Here is a thought for you.  We have been at a continuous war in the middle east for 20 years now.  The Russons pulled out of Afghanistan after about 10 years, knowing that they couldn't win a Gorilla War.  It broke their BANK and now it is breaking ours.  Veit Nam tossed the French and..us out on our ears with gorilla warfare.  America gained it's Independence from England through a kind of gorilla war and so did(not so free) Cuba. Nearly 50 % of our budget goes into the military machine.  I am all for protecting our boarders, but will the old men of Washington and Dogs of War never learn?  Never, because there is money to be made through blood and guts, military machines and the spoils of war.

We had about an inch of snow overnight followed by warmer temperatures and rain.  Most of the snow is gone.  It will get cold tonight and freeze, but warm up again tomorrow.  We are in more "normal" tempertures.  I think I see sunshine at occasionally at the end of a very cold Dec. and Jan.

A FISHY STORY

Mackerel: I bought several cans of Mackerel when they were on sale a while back. I have only used a couple of cans, thus far. Today I opened a can and made a simple Mackerel Salad-akin to Tuna Salad; quick and easy. Mackerel is an "inexpensive" oily fish and has a lot of cholesterol in it. The can label says 45% per serving, but only 90 calories per serving. The label also says it contains 2 servings, but I think there may be 3 to 4 servings in the can, esp. if you make a salad with i t, as I did. Of course, there is the 2 slices of toast and the dressing used to make the salad. I'm guessing that altogether it might be about 3-350 calories consumed for lunch. I will have some more for supper along with a good bowl of soup. There was about a half a can of liquid that I drained off that will go into a fish chowder in a couple days or so.
I thought I had used up the last of my sweet relish when I made the Mackerel Salad, but just to be certain I checked my "closet" and found two new jars.  I pulled one out to use,.  I will replace it when I go shopping as I am making a "replacement List."  Anything with vinegar in it will last a very long time.  Ketchup will turn dark as it ages, but as far as I can tell the flavor remains the same.

You know WHO called twice today.  I am usually doing something when she calls and find it disruptive.  This last time(just a short time ago) I told her that I was having my phone shut off at midnight Sunday.  Actually, I am blocking her calls.  I called AT&T yesterday and found out how to do it.  I should not be reduced to having to do this, but that is the way it is.

Probably not.
_______________
Amy couldn't make it from there to here. I stayed in my "warmies" because it is cold outside. At lest the wind is not bad today. My front steps are iced over. I won't try to go down them for a day or two.
Not much to do and no books to read. I cooked the lobsters and enjoyed them. They were my meal of the day. I have enough left over to make another meal, but I put them(lobster claws) back into the freezer. There is actually a lot of meat in a claw. It takes a little persistence to get it all out. I need to eat the soup I made before I cook anything else.
Tomorrow I should get busy and put on regular cloths. I need to get a few things done within the confines of my den. I have "denned up" for the duration, so I need to keep it neat and presentable.

Doggie and doggone cold

It's snowng  Polar Bears and Alaskan Seals .  I have swept of the front steps and shoveled some of the back patio.  It is coming down fast and consistently-a wet heavy snow.  I have the steps clear because Amy, from Corner Health Care, will be coming to check the Pap machine and the O2 concentrator.  If I don't get my O2 at night I just fall over, like the "Fainting Goats."  Funny to see, but dangerous in a lot of ways.

I tossed a package...about three pound worth- of little, fatty, salty sausages ...the fence to Dog. Dog grabbed the whole package and carried them into the out building where he "lives."  Then Dog came back- searching for the few pieces that fell out of the bag.  Did we make friends?  Probably not, but Dog will eat well this and day and evening.  The little sausages are laden with fat which is just what an out- door doggie needs in this kind of weather.  I have had the sausages for a long time and I can't eat them because the high fat and salt.  Yum for doggie.

The roads have iced over with the  falling temperatures.  I have turned the heat up in the bathroom as it gets cold in that small room and I don't want the pipes to do what pipes do when it is frigid and the winds blow cold.

I made a big pot of vegetable soup tonight.  Even 'though the flavor is good the vegetables are tough even with more than sufficient cooking time.  Tomorrow the soup will go into the pressure cooker and that will take care of that.  I think that I will get lobster claws out of the freezer and steam them.  My special treat to myself for no special reason.

Gas

I went out and got a little gas this afternoon-and I do mean...little.  It is $3.11 right now.  I keep hearing about how much Europeans pay for gas, but bear in mind that their living conditions have surpassed ours...for a while.  Also, most of the gas they use is imported from from Oil Barron Nations in the middle east and South America.  America also improrts oil and then turns about and lets forgien  countries lease OUR oil rigs, or drill and export oil. Now, how smart is that?
Now, about another kind of gas.  Something gave me a lot of stomach distress part of yesterday and through the night.  It caused me to have a very bad night.  I haven't eaten anything unusual or been exposed to anyone "sick." I know was I hurting everywhere and my stomach feels like I was punched and sore.  It is slowly getting better, but still has some residual discomfort.  I thought I would sleep late because I had slept so badly.  Wouldn't you know, you know WHO started calling and waking me up.  Just as I would drift off, the phone would ring.  Either I will a get a new phone number or change my carrier.  My privacy is violated daily.

FEET TO THE FIRE

I have been dieting for about five weeks now and I have lost about five pounds.  It goes on easy, but it is hard to get off, esp. during this cold season where getting out and about isn't much of an option.  I am happy to shed one or two pounds per week.  I have belly fat and although it isn't all that obvious, I know that belly blubber isn't that good for anyone , thus I continues to make the effort and hope to lose one o.r two pounds per week.

That I post my dieting is in effect of holding my own feet to the fire.  I read that you should keep a food diary...and this is it.  I am already breathing better and wheezing less.  The first few pounds were probably fluid loss and that is what usually what goes first.  Next, I hope the real blubber hits the road, but I expect that it will be harder and maybe less.  My expectations are realistic; I will not lose a lot of weight overnight.   I won't post my food ever day, but will post my weight weekly as I weigh myself .,  No, I am not starving, but I may feel like it at times.  By the way,  I have a double chin to give away; anyone want it?

It rained again and it is getting colder with  more  snow on the way for Thursday eve. and Friday.  I thought aabout going out to get some milk tomorrow, but can get by.  With the few days that were in the upper 30's I had turned off the small heaters.  Today I turned them back on as I can already feel the change in the temp.  I hope January is the last of the strange weather and ups and downs.  I am tired of it.

Today I stripped out a couple of banana seed pods. I don't know if they are viable, but I will find out. I like banana peppers in salads and they are easy to grow. This is and odd job day...just call me "ODD JOB." Other than washing cloths and putting them threw the dryer, it has been a kind of a "52 pick up" day.

Diet...now there's four letter word for you. Dieting is HARD WORK! Two more four letter words. However, in total and of going to bed hungry, I have lost five(5) pounds. FIVE...another four letter word.

Sunday is a free day, but I am still careful of what and how much I eat on a free day. I am trying to do without most bread, all candy and sugary snacks and not eating after seven P.M. I don't sleep well on an empty tummy so I do have the "milk and honey" before bed, but I am using less honey.

I have books that need to go back to the library, but it has rained all day.Maybe I can get there tomorrow. I may put the books into the drop box so no one can see my hair disaster.

Today would have been my sister's birthday. Tomorrow is my brother's birthday. Betty Jean born in 1940 and passed away in 2002. That's what cigarettes will do for you.

Saturday, January 15, 2011

Well, it was nice while it lasted.  Rain, snow, sleet, ice are predicted for the days ahead. However, the days are getting longer and the sun has been sticking it's nose out from among the gray, cloudy skies.

For breakfast the usual cup of coffee and  crackers.  For lunch one can of chicken soup, around 120 calories.  Four P.M. some more crackers.  Seven PM. one serving of barbecue ribs and large potato. That is it, but I will have some milk and honey at bedtime.

Friends came over to visit this morning and wouldn't you ; know it, the house, esp. the kitchen, looked like a "high holder's nest."  So...I got busy after they left and put stuff away were it belonged.  The dishes got washed and put away.  I had left a few dishes in the sink and an unwashed kettle on the table.  There were not that many dishes to do, but it did looked sloppy.  At least the floor was clean.  LOL!

Friday, January 14, 2011

Ahhh, now I feel better.  For breakfast I had a cup of coffee and a package of crackers with my medicine.  For lunch I had a cup of tomato soup-the whole can-because one serving is about 90 calories.  The whole can would be about 180 calories.  For supper I went all out: a serving of chopped Spinach, 2 small potatoes, and some lean roast beef.  There are not a lot of calories  in spinach, only about 100 calories in a small potato and I know how know many calories  are in the lean meat.  I am thinking I have consumed 800 to 1000 calories over the course of the day.  I am thinking that I might try the milk and honey again at bedtime because I slept so well last night.

I had an odd dream last night, as well.  I was urging someone to put in a larger garden.  Someone else in the dream told me that I was jealous of the first gardener because that person was taking over the(my)garden: a larger garden wasn't needed. I guess I must have had gardening on my mind when I went to bed.

CROWDER PEAS-aka. field peas, cow peas.  I planted Crowder Peas last year and they will grow just about anywhere in any soil condition.  They will also happily take over your garden, spreading and vining everywhere.  They will also suffocate other garden plants.  Crowder peas are very high in caloric proteins so they might be a good choice to grow along a fence and away from your main garden.  They are a prolific bean and grow in long, slender pods and the beans form closely in the pod. That is why they are called "crowder peas."  Are they worth planting...sure.  The beans are not real large, but you get a lot of beans  from the pod(s).  I saved the seeds from last year; I just won't plant them anywhere my tomatoes, peppers or eggplants.  Along the fence is a very good place for them here and I hope they choke out the other vines that I DON'T want.

Duffus

Have you ever felt like a duffus?  Or worse, looked like one?  Yup, I feel like and look like a...duffus.  I gave myself a "haircut."  It's hard to cut your hair with one good arm and one that can only reach so high and can't turn corners.  It is a haircut the isn't very "repairable."  I think about 4 to 6 weeks in a dark room is the best solution.  The top of my head looks OK, but the back and some of the sides look like a "mow job" with a bad mower.  Time heals all bad hair days.  I just won't have to part my hair on the sides. up the middle or down the back for a while.  Good thing I have plenty of food on hand and don't need to go out in public.

I have had some honey in a big jug for quiet a while.  It had crystallized-turned to sugar, but I hated to throw it away, so I put the whole jug into the micro wave and melted the honey into liquid.  I poured the honey liquid into a clean, smaller container.  What was left became  nice glass of "milk and honey."

I turned the phone off for most of the day.  I have things to do besides run and answer calls from people who have nothing to do all day. You know, that four letter word.. .work?  I turned the phone back on about 4 PM and it started ringing...it was "you know who."  Maybe I should be more charitable toward WHO, but every day, often several times a day, is too much.
So..I vacuumed the kitchen, washed some dishes, washed and dried some cloths...and gave myself a realllly baaad haircut.

CHARITY

I've  touched upon the symbolism of the FOUR HORSEMEN of the Bible.  Now, I think if anyone has a further interest they can read more in their own Bibles or garner more information or teachings from the Internet. Apocalypse by John is about hope, a warning, what is to be or what has already occurred.

I stayed in where it is warm.  I continue to try to diet although I ate a whole jar of mushrooms. When you diet you start to crave a lot of foods you shouldn't have or would not eat ordinarily. When your not out and about there isn't really much to post.

THE BREAD OF CHARITY
IS LIFE ITSELF
FOR THE NEEDY;
HE WHO WITHHOLDS IT
IS A MAN OF BLOOD.
*
Sirach 34, 21
*
CHARITY: Love and good will to men. Liberality to the poor. Leniency in judging others.  Any act of kindness.

Sometimes charity can come back to bit you.  There are those that prey upon the system and the good will and intentions of others.  Does that mean you shouldn't show charity to others?  No, but discretion is a good word to go by.  When in doubt be charitable anyway.  When "put upon" and you know it for certain, withdraw and re-evaluate.  My opinion, anyway.

THAT WHICH IS, IS

My neighbors have a dog.  I don't know why they have a dog.  They don't talk to it, walk it, or socialize with it.  I don't know if they fed it half the time.  There are no foot prints in the snow.  The other day the dog was licking a piece of plastic to get the water.  When we had snow a week ago-no foot prints in the snow indicating that they fed the dog that day.  It is no wonder that when the dog does manage to slip it's leash, it gets a little crazy.  It does not know how at act or react around people.  If such is "a dog's life" let me come back in my "next life" as something else...not as a dog.  There are people that shouldn't have animals of any kind.

We got about 2 inches of snow, nothing spectacular.  I swept off the front steps and shoveled off the back porch a little.  New York and that area of the country is gonna get it.  It is cold here and will get colder overnight.  They are better prepared for what is coming their way.
I am tired today.  Someone called me this morning and woke me up out of a sound sleep just because she was bored.  Then she wanted to know my business.  She needs a hobby.  She sells grave stones and on days like today, no one is out buying monuments.  So...she is bored.  Let me sleep.

BABY, IT'S COLD OUTSIDE

I went the store this afternoon to get some Nestle's Creamer for my coffee.  What a mob!  It's snow panic!  Over a predicted couple of inches!  People were lined up behind me and I felt guily because I had only had five items in my cart.  One minute I looked....and the next thing I knew there were a dozen people behind me.  I also stopped at another store to get 1/2 gal of milk for $1.50 and a savers card.  Munster cheese was $1.98 a package so I grabbed a couple of them as well.  I found one loaf of the $.85 cent bread  and  bought that as well.  There was plenty of bread available, but just the one .85 cent loaf.  Well, I was already there so I added tomato and chicken noodles soups at $.50 cents a can.  Yesterday I bought a case of various meats, including Lobster Tails, for $159.00 dallars.  It may sound extravagant, but I won't need to go out for a while.  As it is, I have not shopped for ever two weeks, and only then for bargains.

Now, about the cold.  The temperature was 32 degrees, but the wind blows bitterly and cutting.  I don't know how much snow we will get or not get: I am in and here I will stay.

I continue to diet.  I have lost three pounds so far. Saturday I really cut back,  Sunday was a "free day" and I ate within reason.  I even ate a roast beef sandwich.  Now I am back to my diet  and hope to lose a couple more pounds by this time next week.  Today I may have cut back too much and became nauseated and started salivating.  Oops! Sugar dropped out.  As soon as I ate some crackers that I keep in the van..I was good to go.  No more problems.

Guns

In the light of a tragic shooting in Az., will the government move to ban or take your guns?  It is quite possible that a real nut case will set into motion the disarmament of John Q Public. Let us hope not and that the private citizen will retain the right of self defensive.  While there are a lot of loose canons rolling about the country, the vast majority of gun owners are  honest, law abiding citizens of earth ship America.

The outgoing Democrats voted in over 700 new regulations at the very last minute of 2010.  Each new regulation is a chink in the fundamental tenets of the constitution.  Chink, Chink, and the rights and freedoms of America will eventually be chipped away.  Dripping water on a granite will eventually wash the hardest of rock  away.

The young man in Az. did not do the American people any favors.  Whatever was in his mind, heart and soul?  We are a nation of laws, a Republic.  We change things through law.  If we don't like the laws we "holler from the roof tops" until laws are set aright.  Misguided violence will do more damage to freedom than all the stupid stuff of Congress.  Change in a civilized nation should come from the top and from scripture.

FAMINE

FAMINE-scarcity of food, extreme
shortage, starvation, to feel acute hunger.

Is there a famine coming to your table? Is the specter of starvation a shadow hovering behind you?  Are the Four Horsemen abroad and active?  All indications are yes ,yes, and yes.
This government is supposed have several  years of surplus wheat in storage.  It is gone, just barely enough to make bread for Americans for a year.
Sold out and shipped out.

The Mormons are prepared; most American are not.  The Mormons have seed vaults; most of us do not.  There are secret bunkers and preparations for the elite and the  governmental entities ; most of us will be "locked out."  Most of us are just drones, the people servants of the "servants of the people."  The elite and the government will take care of themselves.  Who will take care of us-you and I?  If you think the recent bird and fish die-off was bad; just wait.

Everyone can and must do a little bit toward toward their physical salvation, as well as their spiritual survival.  Try to buy an extra can of vegetables or pasta and  squirrel it away for "rainy days."  Do that each payday or when you can, as you can.  Learn to can and freeze food.  Put in a garden; the bigger the better, as you can.  Get healthy.  Get into shape.  Get your dental work done and your eyes checked. Lose the extra pounds and learn to cut back.  Get in practice for what may come.

Is this to say the government will default?  No, but anything is possible.  The earth is already in default.  Floods, droughts, blizzards, crop failures, and heat waves are accelerating around the world.  Does that mean God is mad at us mere mortals that infest the lands?  It does indicate that the land masses and the seas are in flux and we have abused what God has given to His people.  I believe it is also the nature of the universe, as He intended; all things are cyclical.

Have I said all this before?  Yes.  Does anyone listen?  Maybe a few. There all kinds of blogs online you can go to to read pretty much the same information.  One thing you should look up and read about is the Irish Potato Famine, if you haven't already.

BREAKFAST: one cup of coffee and part of a package of crackers.
LUNCH: one boiled egg, plain and a couple more crackers
SUPPER: one bowl of spaghetti with 4 meatballs and one cup of tea.
I can not sleep on an empty stomach.  I got up at 3 AM and ate 4 crackers.
I have lost one pound.  I was "hoping for two.
I can have the following:
  • Sprouted mung beans
  • cooked brown rice
  • cooked split peas
  • banana
  • cooked haddock
  • boiled potato
  • cooked lintels
  • broccoli
  • All of these are measured amounts, but too lengthy to type up.  "All things in moderation."
HOPE: A desire combined with expectation gives grounds of hoping; things desired.

The American Military consumes 46% of the budget. We have troops in over 120 countries. This doesn't take into account all the money that goes into "black ops." We defend everyone else's boarders but our own. Wouldn't it make sense to cut each and every base by at least 1%? I am not a military person, but most wars are fought over land-territory-resources and wealth. We know the Afghanistan is an untapped land of oil, minerals, gold and rare metals. We(Corporate American Government) want the wealth of undeveloped nations and we(the shadow government afore mentioned)think we are going to take them. Will we? The Russians couldn't do it in the "80's. What makes our Corporate Government think we-they-can?

I started this blog before lunch. On the lunch time news it was reported that The USA would start to reduce ground troops in five years.

Breakfast: Peanut butter crackers with my med. and 0ne cup of coffee. The crackers were 190 calories. Coffee unknown.
Lunch: One bowl of soup, one slice of bread, small piece of cheese.
Supper: Plain chicken on toast. Glass of tea.
I don't know how many calories that adds up to, but it can't be that many.

Things that I know I can have:

Buttermilk
low-fat cottage cheese
oatmeal
whole wheat bread
skim milk
apple
tuna in water
cooked navy beans

This only a partial list. All are low calorie, low fat foods. I will add more later.

Continuing diet saga

Pictures of the bread that wouldn't upload yesterday.

RED BEANS AND RICE: That is what I had for supper. And it was good!

  1. Total fat-2 g.
  2. Sat fat-0
  3. Trans. fat-0
  4. Cholesterol-0
  5. Sodium-680 mg.
  6. Total carbs-38g.
  7. Dietary Fiber-5g.
  8. Sugar-3g
  9. Protein-8g.

Vite. A-8%, Calcium 4%, Vite. C. 0%, Iron 15%, Calories about 190 per. serving or 1 cup. or bowl.

I think if I try to keep a running account or diet diary...I will do better about my quest to lose weight. When I took the trash out to the ally for pick-up, I was huffing and puffing. Readers can hold my feet to the fire.

The Red Beans & Rice have a few things that I don't really want; the salt is too much, and so are the carbs., but I did keep to one serving. For lunch I had a chicken sandwich. Hopefully, I can go to bed tonight with just a glass of milk. I can't say how much I weigh because the battery in the scales is dead. I'll get a new battery and let you know how much I may lose as time goes on.

The sky-guy-aka-weather man, says we might get snow. It is overcast and cold so I guess any farmer or farmerette could predict that which comes, as the calender turns. Turn, calendar, turn! The quicker January and February roll into springtime, the happier is-I!

I have been shredding mail again. It is a never ending task because junk mail is never ending. I'm sure the mail carrier would be happy not to have so much tote around and that is why he dumps double and triple amounts

of it into my box. That is also why he didn't get no-nothing for Christmas.

Americans cook post haste...as fast as we can.  If it isn't fast enough there is always Wendy's, Golden Corral, McDonald's, the sub shops, pizza places and all the rest.  It has become our lifestyle due to both parents working or the culture we have become accustomed to.  Even Chief Ramsey's Hell's Kitchen is a "hurry up, get it done yesterday," show.  Fast cooking or fast food isn't always all that good, 'though.  The French used to always have "potherbs  on the back of their stoves, simmering during the day.  I don't know how they cook now, but they still have their famous cooks and chiefs.

Bread:  We buy bread that is processed , sanitized, pulverized, vitamin-ized, and chemical-ized by the ton, planted and cultivated in big kettles, and then, on the tongue, tastes much-like glue that sticks to your teeth and roof of your mouth.  Dare I mention "homemade bread" that takes a little time and effort...surly not!  I am just as guilty as anyone, buying "store bought bread."  Every once in a while I get the yen.  And then...

I baked two loaves of bread from scratch.  They didn't turn out pretty, but smelled good and tasted better, esp. hot from the oven slathered with butter.  That was supper and a second slice with jelly was for dessert. One loaf will go into the freezer and the other loaf goes in me.

It has been a long time since I made bread the old fashioned way. Because it was hard on the arm..I will use my bread machine next time.

Did anyone see the "Mrs. President" get off the plane today?  Could her pants get any tighter or form fitting?

I made a big pot of spaghetti; a really big pot of spaghetti and meatballs.  I don't know how to cook "small."  I am from a large family and and my mother always cooked "big."  So, that's how I cook; "big."  Now, I have a lot of s'gattie.  I  scrounged around for containers and am freezing a good portion of my s'getti.
I put at least a couple of large of meatballs into each container and tried to measure out approximately one meal per container.  I kept some out for my next meal.  I hope it freezes well.

SUNGLASSES!  I needed sunglasses this afternoon!  Ol' Sol was so bright that I had to close the blind in the living room.

You run across odd things when you are looking for other stuff.  For instance, a dictionary.  I have a large dictionary which is hard for me to handle, so I use an old paper back that I bought when I was a kid.  It was printed around 1957 and is falling apart from age and use; the pages are literally crumbling.  While looking for something else I found a "new" dictionary that I had totally forgotten about.  That's  good as the spellchecker associated with blogging is limited.

I finished the book I was reading late Sunday night or early Monday morning(if you wish)  The thing is; I hate cliff hangers.  I suppose that the next continuing edition will not be out for a year or more.  The world could end by then!!  In other words...I hate waiting.

For late breakfast I ate a package of crackers with my meds., late lunch-one slice of bread, late supper-one bowl of  spaghetti.  I will have some oatmeal before going to bed.

Sunday, January 2, 2011

It has been a quite day.  I am deep into a book and about 3/4 way through it.  I have not cooked much today.  I have not eaten too much today.  I am five pounds more that I was a month ago.  Because of the weather I have not been very active, but need to be.  Pushing a vacuum cleaner around will not burn off many calories.  So...I am cutting back.  Don't worry; I am a long way from starving..boy, am I!

We have January, February and March to get through before I can get out into the yard and garden.  Then, maybe I can melt off a little bit of extra poundage.  I just wish I could get my Troy tiller fixed.  Or a new one would be nice.

This year I think I will try to make my own seed pot out of newspaper.  It is pretty easy and saves money.

I have had a lot of problems trying to post tonight, so it will be short.  All the letters and the cursor become scrambled and give me I fits.  Also, I have lost the followers widget and so far have not been able to get them back.  I keep trying, but I am about to give up on getting the followers back.

It got a little colder, did it not?  I turned the oil filled heaters on, again.

Normally, I don't comment on the verses, Psalms or the Gosples of the Bible.  I let readers take it for what they wish.  With this short verse though, I feel that our nation has sunk in quicksand and may not find solid ground.  You may wish to read more of Psalm 9A.
