You just don't hear a lot about Big Brother Aaron. He had God's power and special abilities, and was a prophet, too. We all know that Moses led his people out of Egypt, parted the Red Sea and knocked on a rock that brought forth water for his thirsty followers. You just don't hear a lot of what Aaron was commanded to do.
Here is what we seldom hear or read about. Aaron was a kind, peaceful man and deeply revered by his people. When he died he seemed to be mourned by the Israelites far more than Moses was, or so the Qu'ran and the Book of Exodus seem to illiterate. So, Aaron must have been a pretty good big brother to Moses.
According to the Qu'ran, which kind of parallels (a lot) the Book of Exodus, Aaron really didn't disobey God or Moses and let the people fashion and worship the Golden Calf. Moses wanted to throttle Aaron when he came down from the mountain with the stone tablets, which he threw down and broke, by the way. Makes you wonder how God liked that! Aaron begged for forgiveness from his brother, explaining how his life was on the line and the Levitts would not listen or obey the word of God. When...how often, do people listen to a peaceful man? Not often then and not often now.
Now, you know that Aaron was the first high priest of the people of Moses, the Levitts, some 1200 years or so, before the coming of Christ. Aaron instituted the rituals of the priesthood, by the command of God, to be observed until the coming of Jesus. Your going to say, "Why didn't God just do all this in the first place?" I think they were a rough and tumble people and needed to be led along slowly. Maybe by the nose. Besides, there was free will to factor in. We know the people of Moses used that same free will as they chose to make and worship an idol as soon as Moses was out of sight, so to speak. Just like then, we still prefer to worship the gold.
Aaron was the first son of Aram and the first high priest, and he passed his priestly position, robes and vestments on to his own first son. If you read the Book of Exodus you will find that the robes and vestments of the first high priests of the Levitts are much similar in many ways as the priests and many ministers of our modern churches.
I have loosely paraphrased a lot of the Book of Exodus and there is so much more, a rich text, but you can read it for yourself. It is like reading a good novel. Even 'though the New Testament supplants the Old, it is certainly worth the time to re-read and re-digest the epic history of the Jews seeking freedom from the Pharaoh.
At the same time I am reading Exodus, I am also reading Luke and a si-fi novel. So, if I get my missive is a little blurry around the edges and you can see my bloodshot eyes...well, that's why. And I finished two books..

Greetings Mabel,
Excellent post!! How often we forget about the stories in the Old Testament and merely focus on the New. But each has their importance.
Today I am moving the computer over to the other house. I will be hit and miss online until the end of August. Please, do not stop writing, I will get caught up as I can. I will surely miss my morning readings and writings for a while but this must be done.
The move is coming along slowly but steadily. My garden is going gang busters with tomatoes and cucumbers and I really need to take a day very soon and get out there and get some much needed work caught up. Potatoes need digging up and soon I will have a couple of more buckets of tomatoes and cucumbers to pick. Yes buckets! I have been picking about 2 buckets every other day. I am freezing the romas to make sauce with after the move is completed and have had to give away some of the celebrities as I can not eat them fast enough, LOL.
I will be making cucumber and tomato salad for the pot luck this Sunday at church.
Not sure what happened to the green beans, I had a lot of blossoms but no beans have appeared. Corn is coming on very late. Might get a few ears in spite of it getting planted so late.
Please know I am thinking of you and keeping you in my prayers while I am absent from the internet.
Much love, Alice
