The Angelus

The Angelus

The Angel of the Lord
declared unto Mary.
And she conceived of the Holy Spirit
Hail Mary...etc.
Behold the handmaid of the Lord.
May it be done unto me
according to Your word.
Hail Mary...etc.
And the Word was made flesh.
And dwelt among us.
Hail Mary...etc.
V.  Pray, for us O Holy Mother of God
R.  That we may be made worthy
of the promises of Christ.

Let us pray.  Pour forth,
we beseech You, O Lord,
Your grace into our hearts
that we to whom
the incarnation of Christ,
Your Son, was made known
by the message of an angel,
may, by His passion and cross,
be brought to the glory
of the resurrection,
through the same Christ
our Lord.  Amen

for each Hail Mary that has an....etc...after it, say

Hail Mary, full of grace
the Lord is with you
Blessed is the fruit of your womb,
 Jesus
Holy Mary, Mother of God
Pray for us sinners,
 now and at the hour
of our death...Amen

There is no precise historical documentation as to exactly when the Angelus was introduced into the Church, but it has been traced back as far as the 11th century and was prayed in monasteries, convents and by the ordinary people of the Church.  It is still prayed throughout the Christian world, by Catholics, some Lutherans, Protestants, and in general, lay people.  The church recommends that the Angelus be prayed three times a day, around 6 A.M-12 noon and around 6 P.M on a daily bases.  Pope John Paul wrote that the Angelus leads us to God and God leads us to the Angelus.

This past week the new translation of the mass was introduced on the first day-Sunday-of Advent.  We stumbled over a few words, but it was harder for the priest who offered up the mass.  After all, he is in his 80's, but he did pretty well.

Today I had to go get my licence renewed and take a box to the UPS store to ship back to Dish Network.  It was really windy and cold.  I just don't enjoy this kind of weather.

WHAT A STRANGE
AND WONDROUS STORY
FROM THE BOOK OF GOD
IS READ
HOW THE LORD
OF LIFE AND GLORY
HAD NO WHERE
TO LAY HIS HEAD
HOW HE LEFT HIS
HEAVENLY FATHER
AND IN A MANGER LIE
THAN GROW AND TEACH
TO HEAL AND PREACH
AND ON A CROSS DID DIE

BORN TO HOLY MARY
SO VERY LONG AGO
IN A LOWLY, HUMBLE STABLE
WHERE THE
WISE MEN FOUND HIM SO

THE ANGELS SANG
HIS COMING
A STRANGE AND
WONDROUS MAN
AS TOLD BY THE
GREAT PROPHETS
TO FULFILL THE
FATHER'S PLAN

Well, you can't accuse me of being a great..or even a good poet...can you.  This a statement...not a question.

Some may wonder why I continue this blog in this vein.  I continue for the Russian readers and for the readers in other countries.  And that is that.  The choice is yours..to read or not.
